Following an extensive marketing exercise in New York, Boston and London, the Republic of Uzbekistan (acting through the Ministry of Finance of the Republic of Uzbekistan) successfully priced its inaugural US$1 billion dual-tranche bond offering on 13 February 2019. The 144A / Reg S offering was formed by a dual US$500mm 4.750% tranche due February 2024 and a US$500mm 5.375% due February 2029.
The strong orderbook response peaked in excess of ~ US$8.5bn, allowing the Republic to proceed with a firm price revision and launch the transaction at 4.750% and 5.375% yield for the 5-year and 10-year tranches respectively (down from initial price thoughts of 5.375% area and 6.000% area).
The issue was heavily oversubscribed and well diversified, as final books stood at US$3.8bn, with around 150 institutional investor orders. In terms of geographical distribution, the 5- and 10-year tranches saw UK investors taking 39% and 32% respectively, whilst US investors had 23% and 31%, Continental European 32% and 27%; and Asian & MENA investors took the remaining 6% and 10% respectively.

On February 6, a meeting dedicated to the most important tasks of increasing exports in industries and regions was held under the chairmanship of the President of the Republic of Uzbekistan Shavkat Mirziyoyev.
The meeting was attended by the Prime Minister and his deputies, heads of ministries and agencies, as well as the leadership of the Republic of Karakalpakstan, the city of Tashkent and regions, representatives of large companies and ambassadors via videoconferencing.
Export is an important factor in stability of the economy. A sharp increase in exports is the only way to increase foreign exchange reserves.

On February 4, the President of the Republic of Uzbekistan Shavkat Mirziyoyev held a meeting on the issues of further expanding bilateral cooperation with Germany, France, India and the United Arab Emirates, in particular, ensuring unconditional implementation of the adopted roadmaps.
Investment is the main driving force of economic development. Therefore, this issue is in the center of constant attention of the Head of the state. 2019 was declared in Uzbekistan as the Year of Active Investments and Social Development. The Ministry for Investments and Foreign Trade of the Republic of Uzbekistan was established to improve the efficiency of activities in this direction.
At the meeting it was noted that certain activity has been implemented on business development and creating jobs through attracting investment in domestic economy, but this is still not enough.
There are not enough investment personnel. Activity with investors needs to be improved, the existing infrastructure should be developed. Therefore, we still have much to do in this sphere, to learn a lot. The country will not develop without foreign investment, said Shavkat Mirziyoyev.

The project of this enterprise is implemented in three stages. The first stage was put into operation in December 2018. 100 sewing enterprises from China and Turkey were installed. More than 70 women are employed here.
At the second stage of the project, it is planned to start production of denim with creation of 240 jobs. The third stage envisages yarn production. It is planned that the company will reach full capacity by 2021, which will create about 800 jobs.
Shavkat Mirziyoyev gave important instructions on development of enterprise’s activities. The President noted the need for paying constant attention to ensuring employment of women.

On January 29, the President of the Republic of Uzbekistan Shavkat Mirziyoyev held a meeting on the analysis of effectiveness of measures taken in Uzbekistan to improve monetary policy and foreign trade.
At the meeting it was noted that limitations and problems associated with free purchase and sale of currency, which were a serious obstacle to development of the economy and activities of entrepreneurs were eliminated in Uzbekistan. If before, when there was a requirement for mandatory sale of export earnings part, the use of foreign exchange earnings from exports in the domestic market amounted to 30 percent, then after the cancellation of such conditions, this figure reached 61 percent.
As a result, organizations became able to purchase necessary raw materials and equipment for them, provide current and investment needs. Last year, the volume of industrial production grew by 14.4 percent, export earnings by 19 percent, the volume of currency sold by exporters to banks increased 1.9 times.

The Republic of Uzbekistan has received financing from the World Bank for the Regional Road Development project of local importance, and intends to send a portion of these funds for the payment of goods, works and consulting services to be procured under the project.
Position Title: Bridge Engineer
• University degree in Construction or road engineering; in economics and project management;
• Work experience (5 years and more) in this specialization, including experience in the investment projects financed by international financial institutions.
Personal qualities: ability to clearly explain the idea of the plan and drawings, to analyze information and evaluate solutions, confident decision-making, excellent organizational, communication and management skills, the ability to manage and lead the team, logical thinking and ability to cooperate with others, the ability to work with medium budget and timing, good team work, a thorough knowledge of the local legislation.
1. Knowledge of Uzbek, Russian and English;
2. Higher education in the construction and road engineering;
3. Work experience (3 years and more) in international organizations, mainly in projects of the reconstruction / rehabilitation of roads and artificial structures, knowledge of FIDIC standards and local legislation on the regulation of road construction;
4. The certificates / licenses for supervising the road construction and engineering structures, as well as the possession of special knowledge on the application of standards AASHTO, BS;
5. Good computer skills, knowledge of Microsoft Office applications;
6. Good knowledge of written and spoken English is an advantage.
